Hours
The
Villa Library has an open door policy. Assistance is usually
available 7:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M. Check-Out
Policies Each
student is assigned a number that is used for checking out
books. To find your number, library cards are filed alphabetically
at the circulation desk. Library materials are to be checked
out at the Circulation Desk. If no library staff member is
at the desk, check-out is done on the honor system using the
clipboard provided. It is important that all items taken from
the library be properly checked out before they are removed.
Students are responsible for all materials checked out under
their names. Books: Students
can check out up to 10 books. The normal loan period is 2 weeks. Videos,
CDs, and other audiovisual materials: These items
are checked out for 1 week. Reference
Books, magazines, newspapers, and microfiches: These
materials are available for library use only. They cannot be
checked out. Reserve
Unit Books and Materials: "Reserve Books" are temporary
collections for specific class projects. From time to time,
teachers may request that particular library materials be reserved
for classes. In such instances, these materials are kept on
a cart that is labeled with the course name. The length of
circulation of these materials varies and is determined by
the teacher. Typically, reserve items can be used in the library
only or may be checked out for short times such as overnight
or for 3 days. Materials checked out for "overnight use" need
to be returned before first period the following day. Overdue
Materials and Fines: If students have overdue materials,
they will not be allowed to check out anything until the items
are returned.
- Standard books and materials: 10 cents per day
- Reserve materials: $1.00 per day Renewal
of Materials: Students may renew regular library books
for an additional two weeks. Library fines must be paid before
doing so. You must also have the item in hand in order for
it to be renewed. Lost
of Damaged Materials: Students are charged the cost
of replacing lost items. There is a $10 lost book fee in addition
to the replacemen cost of the book. Students will also be billed
for the cost of replacement or repair of any damaged materials. Services
Internet
Access: The library computers have access to a full
Internet connection. It is our goal to provide this service
to promote educational opportunities that reach far beyond
our local resources. Internet use in the library is restricted
to academic research related to Villa's curriculum and is only
for completing school-related assignments. Students must see
Ms. LeMay to use Internet. Villa students are expected
to access appropriate resources. Email is not to be used in
the library. The library also subscribes to several proprietary
databases available on the Web. These databases provide access
to hundreds of magazines and newspapers and several electronic
encyclopedias. All of these databases can be accessed in the
library, and some are available from home as well.
Photocopy
Services: There is a self-service photocopier in the
Non-Fiction Room. Copies are 10 cents per page.
Study
Space: Because of individual study styles and the
differing pressures that all students face from time to time,
it is important that the study areas be kept as quiet as possible
to allow each student to complete her work. Info
Pass: The Villa Library participates in the Info Pass
Program sponsored by the St. Louis Regional Library Network.
Students with an Info Pass can be issued to students and faculty
who have first searched the Villa Library resources and have
a specific need for materials at another library participating
in the program. See the librarian for more information. Reference
and Research Assistance: The library staff is anxious
to assist each student in the pursuit of her educational goals.
Please do not hesitate to ask for help when seeking information
in the library--even if we look busy. Talk to the librarian
to get the greatest benefit from the resources available! Ms.
LeMay can provide assistance whether you are doing research
for a paper or speech, finding information for a class, or
just looking for a good book to read.
Student
Behavior -
No food or drink, anytime, anywhere! -
No gum chewing. -
Do not move the furniture. -
Students using the library are expected to work quietly. If you
must talk, do so in low tones. -
Noise or disruptive behavior will result in a friendly reminder.
If a second warning is warranted, you may be asked to leave the
library. If behavior is sufficiently disruptive, the student
may be given a pink slip. -
When you retrieve materials from the shelf, DO NOT replace the
items. Leave them on a table. -
Always sign out materials when taking them from the library -- even
if you are just taking it across the hall to the Mac Lab. |
