1929 Main Building Preservation Project

Villa Duchesne/Oak Hill School Polishes “Jewel” to Celebrate Diamond Anniversary

Villa Duchesne/Oak Hill students, parents, board members, faculty/staff, alumnae/i, local Religious of the Sacred Heart and contractors gathered on Sept. 18 to celebrate Construction Completion Ceremony and Family Picnic, an event to kick off the 75th Anniversary of Villa Duchesne/Oak Hill School. Children enjoyed a day of fun with face painting, balloon artists, magicians, zoo animals, giant inflatables and a variety of carnival games followed by a ribbon cutting/blessing ceremony in front of our historic school building.

This event celebrated the successful completion of a “Preservation Project” of phenomenal scope and complexity (as well as on schedule and under budget) on the 1929 Main Building–the jewel of our campus– in time to mark the school’s 75th anniversary.

Villa Duchesne opened its doors on Oct. 2, 1929. Now, 75 years later, the very building where it all began has undergone significant changes. Just after students and faculty departed for the summer, intensive work began with four major contractors, tons of equipment and materials and nearly 100 construction workers. With the tremendous commitment and expertise of numerous people involved in this remarkable endeavor along with the support of our school community we kick off our new school year with renewed energy and excitement.

Highlights of the Preservation Project:
installing air conditioning • installing an upgraded wireless network • installing a key card security system and video cameras • installing a new telephone system with intercom service in every class room • upgrading fire alarm system • replacing original heating system • upgrading electrical system • redesigning language and technology labs • installing new carpet in over 50% of classrooms

Contractors for the Preservation Project:
Aschinger Electrical, Bazan Painting, Hastings & Chivetta Architects, Hensley Construction, Hercules Construction Management Co., Murphy Mechanical
