Guidance, Counseling and Advising
Guided by the principle of educating the whole child as articulated by the Goals and Criteria, the Villa Counseling Department provides caring and consistent support for students throughout their years at Villa and as they plan for their future.

College Counseling Services
Done right, choosing a college involves far more than scanning a ranking list in a news magazine or checking out college stickers on the rear window of the car in front of you. It’s about finding the right blend of academics, activities, location, resources, teaching—it’s about finding a new home after high school.

Villa’s college program focuses, first and foremost, on the best match—the college or university that best suits each student’s talents, strengths and needs. To that end, we provide resources that go far beyond shelves of glossy campus viewbooks. With two full-time counselors for a senior class averaging just 75, students can count on individual attention and assistance with every aspect of the college admissions process. Throughout the year, senior seminars cover timely topics from application essays and interview practice to time management and college campus safety. A customized college counseling software program gives students and their parents the most up-to-date information regarding colleges visiting Villa, St. Louis area programs and admissions receptions, merit scholarships and crucial dates and deadlines. With the support, encouragement and structure provided by the college counseling office, Villa seniors can present their best selves in their applications, and we can provide superlative advocacy for every young woman’s application file.

Counseling Services
In an effort to support our students social and emotional development, a certified counselor is available to students, parents and faculty. As an advocate for students, the counselor offers individual and group counseling, consults with professionals on behalf of students and makes referrals to community resources. In addition, the personal counselor sponsors programs and clubs which promote personal growth and development for students in grades 7-12.

The Advisor Program
The advisory program is one of the ways Villa ensures that individual care and concern are provided for each student in the upper school. Building community within the student’s individual grade level is also a focus of the program. In the advisory program each student in grades 7-12 is paired with an adult who assists the student with program planning and who monitors her academic progress and social adjustment. The advisor meets with the student weekly in a group setting as well as individually when needed. The advisor seeks to work collaboratively with the parents in order to enhance student success.
